The problem

Calculating Revolut crypto taxes is a nightmare

You have made dozens or hundreds of crypto trades through Revolut. Now the tax office wants an overview of your gains and losses. And that is when the misery begins...

Confusing CSV export

Revolut's export contains multiple currencies, different formats (nl-BE and en-GB) and combined fiat and crypto transactions. It is hard to find the right file.

Calculating FIFO by hand

Every sale has to be matched to the oldest purchase. With hundreds of trades this is practically impossible without software.

Staking & crypto income

Staking rewards are taxed separately as movable income at 30%. But how do you filter them out of your hundreds of Revolut transactions?

The solution

Cryptotax handles your Revolut taxes automatically

Upload your Revolut CSV and we do the rest. We automatically recognize your transactions, calculate your tax according to Belgian rules, and generate a report your accountant can use right away.

What you need to know as a Revolut user in Belgium

Revolut operates in Belgium through Revolut Bank UAB Belgian Branch (Brussels). Depending on when you opened your account, you have a Belgian or Lithuanian IBAN, and that determines your CAP obligations.

Do you have to report Revolut to the CAP?

It depends on your IBAN. Revolut is legally Revolut Bank UAB (Lithuanian banking license), but operates in Belgium through a Belgian branch in Brussels. Since April 2025 new customers automatically get a Belgian IBAN (BE...) and existing customers are being migrated gradually.

Check your IBAN: Open the Revolut app and look at your account details. Do you have a BE-IBAN? Then your account is Belgian and you do not need to report anything to the CAP. Do you still have an LT-IBAN? Then the reporting obligation applies until you are migrated.

With an LT-IBAN you have to report to both the CAP (the National Bank's central point of contact for accounts) and in box XIII of your personal income tax return. After migrating to a BE-IBAN you can report the closure of the foreign account.

Revolut and the new capital gains tax

The new Belgian 10% capital gains tax applies to gains on crypto assets, including trades through Revolut. This rate replaces the former 33% speculation tax for most situations.

Cryptotax automatically calculates your capital gains and losses using the FIFO method and generates the correct tax-return codes for Tax-on-Web.

Updated: The capital gains tax on crypto was approved by the Chamber on 3 April 2026. Cryptotax is fully aligned with the new legislation.
2026 update

Crypto taxes in Belgium in 2026

Since 1 January 2026 Belgium has a new 10% capital gains tax on realized crypto gains, including your trades through Revolut. The law was approved by the Chamber on 3 April 2026 and published in the Belgian Official Gazette on 21 April 2026. For anyone holding crypto as normal management of private assets, this 10% rate replaces the old 0% regime.

10% rate above the €10,000 exemption

Anyone managing crypto as normal private assets (buying, holding, selling occasionally) pays 10% on realized capital gains above an annual exemption of €10,000. Below that amount your net gain is tax-free.

Unused exemption can be carried forward up to €5,000 per year to later years, with a ceiling of €15,000 over 5 years. Partners are taxed separately, so each household has two exemptions.

The 31/12/2025 snapshot and DAC8

Crypto you already held before 1 January 2026 gets the market value on 31 December 2025 as its tax cost basis (the so-called "snapshot" or step-up). Gains built up before 2026 therefore remain fully exempt. Document your Revolut balances on that reference date thoroughly (CSV export, screenshot, IBAN overview).

From 1 January 2026 crypto exchanges automatically collect transaction data for the FPS Finance through DAC8. The first crypto tax slips for income year 2026 are expected in September 2027, so your return must match what Revolut reports.

Frequently asked questions

Everything about Revolut taxes in Belgium

The most frequently asked questions about crypto taxes, Revolut and the Belgian tax authorities.

Do I have to pay Revolut taxes in Belgium?

Yes, gains from crypto trading through Revolut are taxable. Since 2026 you pay, as a "normal manager", 10% capital gains tax on gains above €10,000 per year. For speculative trading a 33% rate applies. Staking rewards are taxed as withholding-eligible movable income (30%).

How do I export my Revolut crypto CSV?

Open the Revolut app, go to your crypto overview and choose the option to export your transaction history as a CSV. Cryptotax automatically recognizes both the Dutch and English format.

Is Revolut a foreign account for the CAP?

It depends on your IBAN. Revolut with a Lithuanian IBAN (LT...) is a foreign bank account and must be reported to the CAP and in box XIII. Since April 2025 new Belgian customers automatically get a Belgian IBAN (BE...), then the account is no longer "foreign" and the CAP reporting obligation no longer applies.

What does the Revolut tax software cost?

You can start for free with Cryptotax. The free scan shows your full transaction history and a preview of your taxable gain. You only pay a one-time fee for the full report.

Are staking rewards taxed separately?

Yes, staking rewards are taxed as movable income at 30%. Cryptotax recognizes these automatically and shows them separately in your report with the correct tax treatment.

Can I combine Revolut with other exchanges?

Absolutely! You can combine Revolut with blockchain wallets (Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum), exchanges (Kraken, Bitvavo) and DeFi protocols for a complete overview.
