- Connect Cryptotax to Claude or ChatGPT with the address https://cryptotax.be/mcp and ask questions about your crypto taxes.
- Your assistant reads your year overview, Tax-on-web codes, remaining exemption, transactions and open review items.
- With write access it applies the same corrections you can make in the app; you see them under Mijn wijzigingen and finalised years stay locked.
- Part of the Pro plan; you choose read only or read and write and can revoke access at any time.
"How much of my exemption do I have left in 2026?" From today you can simply ask Claude or ChatGPT. Cryptotax now has its own connection for AI assistants: you connect your account once, and from then on your assistant fetches your tax overview, transactions and open review items straight from Cryptotax. The connection is part of the Pro plan, with permission that you give and can withdraw at any time.
💡 What is MCP, in one paragraph?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants talk to other apps safely. Instead of copying and pasting exports, you give the assistant a "connector": a fixed entry point to your data, with rules about what it may read and what it may change. Cryptotax hosts that entry point itself at https://cryptotax.be/mcp. There is no extra party in between.
🔍 What can you ask your AI assistant?
Your assistant works with the same figures as your Cryptotax dashboard. A few examples of questions that work:
- "How much of my exemption do I have left in 2026?"
- "Summarise my 2026 tax year: realised capital gains, income and the Tax-on-web codes."
- "Which transactions still need to be reviewed, and what do you suggest?"
- "Which of my wallets and exchanges have not synced in a long time?"
- "In which month did I realise the most capital gains?"
- "What are my open DeFi positions?" (beta feature, if you have enabled beta features)
In concrete terms, the assistant can read: your connected wallets, exchanges and CSV imports, your tax years, your transactions, the per-year overview with the declaration codes for Tax-on-web, your remaining exemption, your portfolio and DeFi positions (beta) and the list of items that still need review.
An example: say you have already realised €6,500 of capital gains in 2026. The assistant fetches your year overview and tells you how much of the €10,000 annual exemption for gains on financial assets (under normal management) is left, so you know where you stand before your next sale. Note: you share that exemption with your other financial assets, such as shares. What Cryptotax shows is what remains based on your crypto data.
⚙️ What can your assistant fix for you?
If you also grant write access, your assistant can work through your list of open review items together with you. It uses exactly the same corrections you can make in the app:
- correct a transaction (for example change its type, its treatment or its value in euro);
- pair an outgoing and an incoming transaction as a transfer between your own accounts, so your cost basis carries over and the transfer does not count as a taxable sale;
- create standing rules, such as "transfers to this address are my own wallet" or "ignore dust (tiny leftover amounts) below €1".
Good to know:
- You see what changed. Corrections and transfer matches made by your assistant appear under "Mijn wijzigingen" (my changes) on your year overview, just like your own changes, and you can remove them there.
- Standing rules apply to every year. For now you view and delete rules your assistant creates through the assistant itself (ask, for example, "show my rules").
- Every change triggers a recalculation, so your figures reflect the new situation once it finishes.
- Years that are fixed stay fixed. Your assistant cannot change a year your accountant has finalised (reviewed or marked as filed). It cannot change a year without a paid plan either.
Your assistant should not decide for you: Cryptotax instructs it to describe every change and ask for your confirmation first. That way you stay in charge of your own file.
✅ How to connect Cryptotax to Claude or ChatGPT
- In Claude (claude.ai or the desktop app) or in ChatGPT, add a custom connector with the address
https://cryptotax.be/mcp. - Log in to Cryptotax when the assistant asks you to.
- On the consent page, choose what the assistant may do. If the app also asks for write access, keep "Make corrections" ticked or untick it for read-only access. Click Allow.
That is all. Whether and how you can add custom connectors depends on your Claude or ChatGPT plan. You will find the full steps per app in the guide Connect your AI assistant via MCP.
Are you a developer, or do you work with Claude Code or Cursor? Then create a personal API token in your settings (read only, or read and write) and use it with the same address. There is also a REST API at /api/v1. Everything is on the developer page.
🔐 Security and privacy
- You choose the access. Read only, or read and write, per connection. The consent page shows the address the app will send you back to, so you know who you are connecting with.
- You can revoke at any time. Under Settings, "Connected apps", you see every connected app and can cut off its access immediately.
- Everything is logged. Every action your AI assistant takes (read or change) is recorded and shown in your account's events.
- No passwords or keys in the chat. You log in at Cryptotax itself; we only store access tokens as a hash.
- Your AI provider sees what you ask. The assistant fetches what it considers necessary for your question, and that data ends up with the provider of your assistant (such as Anthropic or OpenAI). If you do not want that for certain data, do not ask about it, or revoke the connection.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Does the AI connection cost anything?
The connection is part of the Pro plan and costs nothing on top of Pro. With a free account or the Hobby plan you cannot connect an AI assistant. For a year without a paid plan your assistant only sees tax totals as a range, just like in the app. Your remaining exemption and exact totals are only available for a year with a paid plan.
Will my AI file my tax return now?
No. Your assistant answers questions about your figures and helps you resolve open review items. You submit the return in Tax-on-web yourself, or your accountant does it for you.
Is what the assistant says tax advice?
No. The figures are an indicative calculation by Cryptotax, and an AI assistant can make mistakes in how it explains them. Check important amounts in your dashboard.
Which assistants work with it?
Claude (claude.ai and the desktop app) and ChatGPT through a custom connector, and tools such as Claude Code and Cursor through a personal API token.
