Track your cross-chain transfers between Ethereum, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon or Gnosis without spreadsheets. Cryptotax recognises hTokens, bonder fees and subsidies so your bridge activity stays fiscally correct.
Start free with CryptotaxWhy Hop Protocol matters
- Fast L2 <> L2 bridges thanks to bonder liquidity.
- hTokens and AMM swaps create small price differences.
- Subsidies and HOP governance rewards are taxable.
What is Hop Protocol?
Hop (also known as Hop Exchange or Hop Finance) is a trustless cross-chain bridge that deploys liquidity across multiple L2 networks such as Ethereum, Arbitrum and Optimism. By using bonder liquidity, the user does not need to wait for the full challenge period of a rollup.
Multi-chain coverage
Hop supports Ethereum mainnet, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon and Gnosis for tokens such as ETH, USDC, USDT and DAI. We link every transfer to the correct chain and token so your balance is always accurate.
Bonders and liquidity
Bonders front liquidity on the destination chain. When the official rollup proofs arrive, their position is settled. Our platform logs both the fast receipt and the later settlement to keep your audit trail complete.
hTokens and AMM swaps
During the bridging process, hTokens arise as a temporary representation of your assets. We recognise the mint/burn flow and any AMM swaps to the canonical token so no double counting occurs.
Security and fallback
Should bonder liquidity temporarily be unavailable, you can claim via the slower on-chain route. Cryptotax marks this fallback so you know why certain transfers were confirmed later.
What does Cryptotax record for Hop?
Our engine combines on-chain data, price feeds and protocol heuristics to classify every Hop action. This lets you link bridge activity to your Belgian tax return and portfolio management.
Source and destination chain
- Detection of the outgoing transfer on the source chain (lock or burn).
- Registration of the incoming tokens on the destination chain via bonder liquidity.
- Synchronisation with the final settlement to avoid discrepancies.
Fees, bonder costs & subsidies
- Storing bridge fees and bonder premiums as a cost component.
- Recognition of any Optimism OP subsidies or other incentives as taxable income.
- Building EUR values at the exact timestamp of the fee.
hTokens and internal swaps
- Mapping hTokens to their underlying asset so you get no ghost tokens in your portfolio.
- Analysis of slippage between hToken and canonical token, including any realised small gains or losses.
- Flagging AMM interactions used by Hop.
Risk and incident logging
- Signalling bridge interruptions or delayed settlements.
- Option to document loss or theft claims when an exploit occurs.
- Integration with your broader DeFi history to avoid double counting.
Key tax considerations for Hop
Hop transactions look simple but often consist of multiple steps. Our tax engine translates them into clear Belgian categories.
How Cryptotax processes your Hop activity
-
Cross-chain transfers are movements.
Sending tokens via Hop is treated as a transfer of the same asset. In most cases this is not taxable, but the audit trail records both the outgoing and incoming leg so you can demonstrate that these are the same holdings.
-
Fees and slippage are a cost or capital gain.
Bridge fees, bonder premiums and any slippage are recorded. If you get a better rate on the destination chain, we register that as a small capital gain; if you lose value, it becomes a cost.
-
Incentives and subsidies are income.
Any HOP governance rewards, OP refunds or other bridge subsidies are marked as taxable income at the moment of allocation, with EUR valuation via CoinGecko.
-
Fallbacks and delayed settlements.
When bonder liquidity is unavailable and you claim via the slow route, we show the different timestamps. This helps explain why a receipt was booked later and supports your documentation to the tax authority.
-
Incidents and loss.
Should an exploit or bug affect your funds, we record the transaction history so you can claim any decrease in value as miscellaneous costs or movable loss (subject to tax advice).
