Learn how to read and interpret the CryptoTax.be dashboard for your Belgian crypto tax return. Everything explained on one page.
What it is
The dashboard is the central overview of your crypto portfolio and your tax situation. At a glance it shows how much you have earned or lost with crypto, and which amount is fiscally relevant for your Belgian tax return.

Snapshot
Portfolio value
At the top you see the current value of all your crypto holdings, expressed in euros. This is a snapshot based on current market prices.
Realised profit and loss
This is the amount you have actually earned or lost by selling crypto in the selected tax year. Unrealised gains (coins you still hold) are not counted.
Keep an eye on this amount: it is the basis for your Belgian tax calculation.
Taxable amount
Cryptotax automatically calculates which portion of your realised gain is taxable under Belgian rules (capital gains tax of 10%). The system takes into account the exemption threshold and the FIFO method for cost basis.

Transaction overview
A list of all your transactions, sorted by date, per fiscal year. For each transaction you see:
- Date and time
- Type (purchase, sale, staking, etc.)
- Coin and amount
- Counter-value in euros at the time of the transaction
- Realised profit or loss

Important notes
- The dashboard is a tool. The final return is your own responsibility. If in doubt, it is best to consult a tax adviser.
- If you are missing transactions or the figures do not add up, check whether all exchanges are correctly synchronised.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Why does the profit shown on the dashboard differ from what I calculated myself? A: Cryptotax uses the FIFO method (first in, first out) to calculate the cost basis. This is the method applied by the Belgian tax authority. Small differences can also arise from exchange rates at the time of the transaction.
Q: Are unrealised gains counted? A: No. Only sales and other taxable events (such as certain swaps) are counted. Crypto you still hold is not taxable until you sell it.
