Cryptotax has a built-in collaboration workflow for accountants and their clients. You give your accountant access to your file without sending sensitive data by email, and your accountant can fully review, correct and export your crypto return within a single environment.
For users: connecting your accountant
There are two ways to set up the connection:
- You share with your accountant. Log in, go to the Accountant page and enter your accountant's email address. Your accountant receives an invitation to manage your file.
- Your accountant invites you. If your accountant already works with Cryptotax, they can invite you from their dashboard. As soon as you accept the invitation, your file appears with your accountant.
The connection works per tax year: your accountant only sees the years for which you have a report and that you share. You always remain in control and can revoke the connection at any time on the same page. Your accountant never logs in as you: they work through a separate, secured accountant environment.
What your accountant can do
A connected accountant gets much more than a read-only view. They have a full review environment:
Viewing the file and figures
- The complete transaction overview per tax year, with date, type, cost basis and proceeds.
- The summary of capital gains, tax and income for that year.
- Flagged transactions (flags) that require attention, such as missing prices or unknown sources.
- A multi-year overview to compare the evolution across different tax years.
Editing tax events
This is the difference with an ordinary share link: your accountant can adjust and correct individual tax events. For each transaction they can change, among other things:
- the type (for example purchase, sale, expense, income);
- the tax treatment and whether or not the transaction is taxable;
- the EUR value and the timing of the transaction;
- the description and the attention flags.
Every adjustment is safe: the original value is always preserved, every change is reversible and is logged (who made the adjustment and when). After a correction, Cryptotax automatically recalculates the cost basis and the capital gain, so the figures stay consistent. You can read more about this in the Tax Events Editor.
Adding notes
Your accountant can attach internal notes to individual transactions or to the entire year file, for example to document a choice or to keep a note for themselves.
Managing review status
The review runs through clear statuses, so you always know where your file stands:
- Submitted: you have delivered the year to your accountant for review.
- In progress: your accountant is reviewing the file.
- Reviewed: the check is complete.
- Filed with the tax authorities: the return has actually been filed.
After corrections, your accountant can also manually restart the recalculation of the cost basis if needed.
Exporting reports
Your accountant can export per client and per year:
- a detailed PDF report with all transactions;
- a summary PDF report;
- a CSV export of all events;
- a bulk export of all clients for a chosen year at once.
The export contains the direct mapping to the Tax-on-Web codes (such as 1440 and 1444), so the return can be filled in smoothly.
Custom branding on the reports
Accountancy firms can format the PDF reports in their own branding: a custom logo, colors and sender name. This way the firm delivers recognizable reports to its clients.
For accountants: the Accountant Dashboard
If you manage multiple clients, you get a central Accountant Dashboard with:
- a client overview showing the review status per client;
- an activity feed of recent submissions and changes;
- inviting clients via their email address;
- profile and branding settings for your firm.
Free and paid
The free accountant plan lets you fully manage one client: viewing, correcting, notes and review. If you want to manage multiple clients and use the export and bulk-export features, a paid accountant plan is required. You can upgrade at any time from your dashboard.
Secure and transparent
- No sensitive data by email: everything runs within Cryptotax.
- Your accountant never logs in as you and never uses your password.
- Original values are preserved and every correction is reversible and logged.
- No blockchain knowledge needed: Cryptotax calculates everything automatically.
- EU-hosted and aligned with Belgian legislation.
Frequently asked questions
Can my accountant edit my transactions? Yes. A connected accountant can correct tax events (type, treatment, taxability, EUR value, date, description and flags). The original values are preserved, every change is reversible and is logged, and the figures are recalculated automatically.
Can my accountant see my login or password? No. Your accountant works through a separate accountant environment and never has access to your login details. They can only see the years you share.
Does my accountant have to pay for access? An accountant can start for free with one client. For multiple clients and the export features, a paid accountant plan is required.
Do I keep control myself? Yes. You can revoke the connection at any time on the Accountant page. As soon as you stop the connection, your accountant no longer has access to your file.
