TL;DR

Connect your Coinbase account to CryptoTax.be via API or CSV and easily calculate your Belgian crypto tax on all your transactions.

How to connect Coinbase to CryptoTax.be

What you need

Step 1: Create an API key on Coinbase

  1. Log in to Coinbase and go to Settings (top right via your profile menu).
  2. Click the API tab.
  3. Click New API Key.

the Coinbase API section in the settings

Which permissions do you need

Give the key the following permissions:

  • wallet:transactions:read
  • wallet:accounts:read
  • wallet:buys:read
  • wallet:sells:read

Do not grant write permissions. Cryptotax only reads.

Step 3: Synchronise your transactions

After saving the key, synchronisation starts automatically. Depending on the number of transactions this takes a few seconds to minutes.

Coinbase Pro / Advanced Trade

Do you also have a Coinbase Advanced Trade (formerly Coinbase Pro) account? Create a separate API key there via the Advanced Trade interface and add it as a second Coinbase connection.

Alternative: import via CSV

If you have trouble with the API connection, you can also export your transactions as CSV from Coinbase:

  1. Log in to Coinbase.
  2. Go to Reports in the menu.
  3. Click Generate report and select Transactions.
  4. Download the CSV file.
  5. Import the file into CryptoTax.be via CSV import.

Important notes

  • Coinbase has different products (Coinbase, Coinbase Advanced, Coinbase Wallet). Each has a separate transaction history. Make sure you connect all relevant accounts.
  • Coinbase Wallet is a self-custodial wallet. You cannot connect it via API; use a CSV export or enter transactions manually in that case.

Troubleshooting

  • Error "Insufficient permissions": Check that you checked all required read permissions when creating the key.
  • Transactions from early years are missing: Coinbase sometimes limits API exports by time. Use a CSV export for older transactions.
