What you need

Which permissions do you need

When creating the key, check the following permissions:

  • Query Funds (for your balance)
  • Query Ledger Entries (for your transaction history)
  • Query Closed Orders & Trades (for your trading history)

Do not check any other permissions. Cryptotax does not need trading or withdrawal rights.

  1. Give the key a recognisable name, such as CryptoTax.be.
  2. Click Generate Key. You now see your API Key and Private Key. Copy both to a safe place.

Note: the Private Key (API Secret) is shown only once. Copy it immediately.

Step 3: Check synchronisation

After connecting, CryptoTax.be automatically starts fetching your transactions. This may take a few minutes if you have a long history. You can see the progress via the status bar.

Important notes

  • The Kraken API can sometimes not return the complete history. If you are missing transactions from before 2018, consider a CSV export as a supplement.
  • Make sure your API key does not expire. Kraken lets you set an expiry date; choose No expiry for a permanent connection.
  • If you have two-factor authentication set up on Kraken, this has no effect on the API connection.

Troubleshooting

  • Error "Invalid key": Check that you have not swapped the API Key and the Private Key.
  • Incomplete transactions: Export a CSV from Kraken and import it as a supplement via CSV import.
  • Connection broken after some time: Your API key may have expired. Create a new one on Kraken.
